A Pleasant Surprise

Our experience and immersion in Japan started off with a pleasant surprise. As we entered an auditorium in the school, we were welcomed with a surprise, our alma mater hymn. Soon after, we were segregated in to our respective classes, and were introduced to our buddies.

Friend and Buddy

Our buddies were not equipped with the best set of english communicational skills, and we did not carry sufficient knowledge and training with the Japanese language. Despite this, we were able to communicate and understand each other using hand gestures and by trying to translate the word by using translation apps. My partner in particular was a very cheerful and fun person. Her name is Nakatani Mao. She would accommodate me and my needs to the fullest of her ability. She would make sure that I was having fun and was okay. I will never forget Mao’s kindness and I wish to return her the favour some day.

Mechanical Engineering

I initially had no information with what mechanical engineering was, until I had gone to their classes. We were brought to the factory, where the students wore uniforms and working gear. Since we were not wearing proper attire, for safety reasons we were only permitted to watch as they worked.

The Factory

The factory had big machines and safety zones. As a person who was completely unfamiliar with the works pf mechanical engineering, everything seemed intimidating. The students were taught how to handle the machines as well as how to maintain them. It was only then I saw the application of scientific theories in real life. The students aged between 16 to 17.

Language Barrier

After our commute, which was very smooth and efficient we had gone to our respective classes. I was guided through the entire class by my buddy. When the class got challenging because of the language barrier, my partner would try her best to write english explanations and translations.
